It never showed up and thus, in the way of this article, were never at the party. So, of you do the math, as this article would like you to do, there are only 5 hippos left at the party, not the 7 it says there would be.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18343376343334160346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3571309.post-43937504610567896792010-02-07T02:05:23.745-05:002010-02-07T02:05:23.745-05:00I thoroughly agree that the mystery of the 6 "...I thoroughly agree that the mystery of the 6 "lost" hippos is worth further investigation. But I have another question for this esteemed forum: why did the beast go home with the working hippos and not with the hippos he came with? Did he come to the party to get a job? Did they 'get rid of him' by shipping him off home with the workers?Jo Friedmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05663424767990740348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3571309.post-50403935642691290702009-06-13T02:39:58.084-04:002009-06-13T02:39:58.084-04:00Absolutely brilliant. This is no forgery;...I disagree with your analysis. This is no forgery; only an attempt by Boynton to spare her younger audience the truth of the horrible acts and consequence that occurred. The 7 'berserk' hippos murdered 6 'distressed' hippos and left their homeland as outlaws, to be followed by the most of the other hippos traveling to all corners bent on revenge. Note, the use of the term berserk, is a clue linking this story to some lost Nordic saga upon which this story is obviously based.Richard Reitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03615625106964491572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3571309.post-41093365320206606722009-02-02T15:03:00.000-05:002009-02-02T15:03:00.000-05:00This reminds me of the classic midrash on Goodnigh...This reminds me of the classic midrash on Goodnight Moon...Derek the Ænglicanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11625110461660458291noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3571309.post-90108610865489694942009-01-29T08:42:00.000-05:002009-01-29T08:42:00.000-05:00If we are talking inconsistencies, Arthur's April ...If we are talking inconsistencies, Arthur's April Fool supposedly by Marc Brown, my 18 months favorite these days, has April Fools on the second of April. Sandra Boynton and the 10th century.

Perhaps you could look into problems posed by the Going-to-Bed book next. Is the Moon high? Is the Sea deep? More importantly, why is it that when the moon is on the rise the animals all exercise? On whose authority are such things claimed, I wonder. ;)Mary Kate Hurleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14892991966276345782noreply@blogger.com
